2018 Mole de Mayo Festival
In 2017, Mole de Mayo was a successful event because of the food, volunteers, and community. The Eighteenth Street Development Corporation (ESDC) is proud to host the 9th Annual Mole de Mayo Festival in the Pilsen neighborhood. Due to the success of the event, ESDC added a third day. Mole de Mayo will be a 3-day event of food, entertainment, visitors, volunteers, and the essence of community. We hope you can volunteer in ensuring this event is a great experience for everyone.

We cordially invite you to participate in Eighteenth Street Development Corporation’s 9th Annual Mole de Mayo Festival! For the last thirty-eight years, Eighteenth Street Development Corporation (ESDC) has been committed to fostering the economic development and advancement of businesses within the Pilsen community. ESDC’s Mole de Mayo Festival is an outdoor mole cook-off celebrating Pilsen’s Latino culture and more specifically, their Mexican cuisine.
Mole pronounced (Moe-le) is a traditional Mexican sauce typically made of chili peppers, spices, nuts, chocolate, and various seasonings. Mole comes in a variety of flavors and ingredients, but the most classic mole version is a dark red or brown sauce served over various types of meats or enchiladas. Mole is said to originate from three different states in Mexico and is a staple in most Mexican households.
ESDC’s Mole de Mayo will take place on Friday, May 25rd through Sunday, May 27, 2018 in the heart of Chicago’s Mexican community, Pilsen. This two-day event will include local restaurant chefs competing for one of two awards: Mole de Mayo’s Best Mole Award and the People’s Choice Award. Along with the traditional mole puestos (booths), the festival will have two stages of musical entertainment, visual artists, traditional Azteca danza, and much more!
ESDC envisions Pilsen and the Lower West Side of Chicago as vibrant center of sustainable commercial and industrial activity. We believe that with your support, we can continue to make this a reality! t
