DNAinfo Chicago reports the outcome of last Fridays hearing - Feb. 21st - at the city's Zoning Board of Appeals. On the table was a special use permit needed to open Pilsen's second metal recycling facility. Community opposition was formed by local organizations P.E.R.R.O. and Pilsen Alliance, in response to the facilities negative impact on air quality, traffic and safety of nearby students at Juarez High School. Community residents sat through over seven hours of hearings for the opportunity to speak out against the proposed metal shredder, Pure Metal Recycling.
